As a small business creating custom sublimation products, we often hear the question: “Why aren’t your blanks made in Canada?” The simple answer? Canada simply doesn’t have the resources, manufacturing capabilities, or cost structure to produce these items affordably. But rest assured—the quality of our products meets strict Canadian standards, even if the materials themselves come from abroad.
When it comes to sublimation printing, the key to a high-quality product is the blank item itself. Whether it’s apparel, tumblers, mugs, or other specialty products, these blanks must have a specific polyester coating or content to properly bond with sublimation ink. Unfortunately, Canada does not have large-scale manufacturing for these types of products.
The reasons are straightforward:
There are some great Canadian companies, such as such as Design Blanks Canada and BlanksBlanksBaby, that supply sublimation blanks and materials. However, these businesses primarily distribute products rather than manufacture them domestically. The specialized nature of sublimation blanks, which require specific coatings and materials, means that large-scale production facilities are typically located in countries with established expertise in this field.
Even if some items were made in Canada, they would likely be mass-produced in standard designs, limiting the level of customization that many makers seek. This highlights why small businesses like ours rely on globally sourced blanks to create truly unique, custom products for our customers.
While our blanks may not be made in Canada, every product we offer is created with strict attention to quality. We carefully source materials that comply with Canadian regulations, ensuring they are safe for use and meet industry standards. Our sublimation process, from ink to final press, follows best practices to guarantee vibrant, durable prints.
Even the sublimation ink and paper we use are not manufactured in Canada (at least, not that we’re aware of). These specialty materials are developed in countries with the technology and research behind high-quality sublimation printing.
At The Creative Design Hutt, we are a handmade business—not a mass manufacturer. Every product is designed, printed, and pressed in-house with care and attention to detail. When you purchase from a small Canadian business like ours, you’re supporting local creativity, craftsmanship, and passion.
While we may not have “Made in Canada” blanks, what is made in Canada is the custom design, the personalized touch, and the dedication we put into every single item. And that’s something you can’t get from mass-produced products.
By choosing handmade, you’re not just buying a product—you’re supporting a local maker who is working hard to bring unique, high-quality items to Canadian customers. And that is what truly matters.
